About Thread & Feed

Thread & Feed is a small independent reference site about home sewing and embroidery machines. It is organized by machine type, like the tabs of a pattern binder, and each page tries to answer one question fully, with the direct answer first.

What you will find here

  • Fix pages: why stitches skip, thread nests and needles break, with the checks in order.
  • How-to notes and explainers on threading, tension, stabilizer, hooping and machine care.
  • Tools that match a needle and thread to your fabric and check which hoop a design fits.
  • Narrow machine guides, each about one kind of sewing, embroidery, serger or quilting machine.

Where the numbers come from

Needle sizes, thread weights and hoop fields follow the published charts of needle and machine makers and long-established sewing references. Where sources disagree we give a range instead of a single figure, and we say so. Your machine's manual always wins where it differs from a general rule.

How machines are chosen

We do not run a sewing lab and we do not claim hands-on testing. Machine guides compare products by what their Amazon listings state. How we pick machines explains the method and its limits.

How the site is paid for

Links to Amazon are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only income. Nobody pays to be included, and a product is never listed because of its commission. See the affiliate disclosure.
